Drip tubing comes in many sizes and configurations and from many manufacturers, so it's easy to get confused about what you should buy.
The first form of drip tubing to know about has what are called "inline emitters." This type of drip tubing is often referred to as dripperline, but is different than another similar product called "soaker hoses." Emitters are the little holes where the water comes out, and the device inside the tubing to ensure the water comes out only when it's supposed to and in the correct amounts.
The second form of drip tubing to know goes by many names. Sometimes it's called blank tubing, supply tubing, or distribution tubing. It serves two primary purposes in an irrigation system. The first is to bring water to places in the garden that are far away from the water source, without watering anything along the way. The second is allow you to add your own emitters precisely where you want them, and delivering different amounts of water along the way.
Drip tubing typically comes in 1/2" (or 17mm) and 1/4" (or 12mm) sizes, though other sizes are available for highly specialized purposes. The size of the tubing (the diameter of the tubing) has no bearing on the rate at which water comes out, this is controlled entirely by emitters.
We carry only the best and most reliable brands of drip tubing at Water Wise Now, because if your tubing isn't reliable, you're likely to waste water in the garden.
- Netafim Techline When it comes to drip tubing with inline emitters, this is our top pick. Aside from state-of-the-art emitters and a broad product selection for any landscape needs, their Techline tubing is made from 100% post-consumer and post-manufacturing recycled polyethylene.
- Rain Bird Drip Tubing is another excellent brand of high-end tubing, particularly the XF series. If you are an organic farmer, and a chemical-free garden is an absolute must, we recommend the Rain Bird XFS Dripline because it uses copper to prevent root intrusion into the emitters.
- Agrifim Drip Tubing is an economical, reliable, and effective product line for drip irrigation. They're not sexy like Netafim or Rain Bird, but they are a good solution for many home gardeners on a budget.
